2018 Desert Rose, Rosé

In the glass the wine is a brilliant Spanish Pink color (rosa). The nose is extremely aromatic and has a exotic mélange of wild strawberry, dragon fruit and red plum notes. This is a dry and pleasantly fruity rosé with moderately high acidity and plenty of structure to keep it aging gracefully. Flavors of crisp watermelon, bing cherry, and white pepper followed by notes of strawberries with creme fraiche on the finish.
With the 2018 harvest, our picking schedule returned to a more normal rhythm in Alexander Valley. A long, even growing season with excellent fruit set, good rainfall and higher yields gave us the opportunity to dial in the flavor profiles, acidity and ripeness of our individual blocks. This wine was inspired by Cabernet Franc Rosé from the Loire Valley in France and beautifully expresses our unique loamy soils. To create the perfect balance of flavors we harvested our grapes early to preserve the bright acidity. The wine was stainless-steel fermented without oxygen and bottled in early February to capture the beautiful freshness and brightness of our Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
82% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot, 8% Malbec
Our Desert Rose, rosé was named in tribute to owner/winemaker Mark Lyon's mother, Rosie, whose favorite flowers are the desert blooms that blossom in Arizona from March through April. Also a nod to the true dry style of rosé this wine represents.
Food Pairing Notes
Although this is the ultimate warm weather party wine that tastes delicious on its own, it pairs beautifully with vegetable terrines, composed salads, patés and charcuterie, light pasta and rice based dishes, grilled fish or lobster.
