Tasting Notes
Our 2017 Leoncito (Spanish for little lion) is a dark purple color. The nose is suggestive of dark black cherry and boysenberry followed by hints of vanilla and baking spices. Smooth yet medium-plus in body, this wine offers rich flavors of ripe black cherry, red berries and dark chocolate with a hint spice on the long, silky finish.
Vineyard Notes
Record-breaking winter rainfall kicked off the season, replenishing soils and ponds. A pleasant spring brought bud break at the normal time, and we welcomed small berries with excellent color. A hot summer came to a peak on Labor Day weekend but our grapes fared well and once cooler weather arrived, our red varietals were able to mature at a gradual pace. Lyon Vineyard was the source for our Right Bank-inspired blend of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Our Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc were co-fermented in a 10-ton fermenter, whereas the Merlot was harvested fully ripe a bit later and fermented separately. Each varietal contributes some desired attributes; Cabernet Franc contributes red fruit impressions (raspberry and cherry notes) and tobacco leaf aromatics; Petit Verdot adds color, structure, and floral aromatics and Merlot played a supporting role providing nuances of black fruits (black cherry and blueberry) and plum flavors.

64% Cabernet Franc, 25% Petit Verdot, 11% Merlot
