Our 2015 Old Vine Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has an opaque dark purple color with a bright rim. Boysenberry, blackberry compote, cedar box and sweet baking spices aromas fill the very fragrant nose. The flavors are similar adding generous ripe blackberry and mocha impressions, creating a wine that is well balanced and full bodied, drinkable now but perfect for cellaring. The finish is luscious and lingering with warm blackberry pie and dark chocolate nuances. We recommend decanting this wine to enhance its inherent depth and complexity.
2015 was another drought year and was not without its challenges. A cool wet May with intermittent rain caused shatter during flowering which produced a small fruit set. In addition, the yields were much lower than usual, barely 3 tons per acre which meant more concentrated fruit flavors. Fall produced more typical California coastal weather, with cool fog in the morning clearing to sunny skies by early afternoon with temperatures soaring up into the 90°s F and the quickly cooling off following sunset. This 40+ year old vine Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested last with the intention to make a riper, more fruit-forward style from Alexander Valley, the clusters were luscious bluish-black berries that had great concentration of flavors.
