Lyon Vineyard is a historic Alexander Valley AVA located on the east side of the Russian River in Cloverdale, California. The 122-acre vineyard is planted with five red varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, and five white varietals; Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Musqué, Sauvignon Gris, and Semillon.
The Lyon Vineyard has two main soil types, Cortina Loam and Yolo Loam. The gravelly/sandy Cortina Loam is derived from millions of years of gravel and sand alluvial deposits from the Russian River. This well drained soil is ideally suited for growing our deeper red varietals, producing muscular wines with high extract and concentrated flavor. The clay-to-clay/sandy Yolo Loam is derived from alluvial deposits from the surrounding hills and conducive for growing our mineral rich white varietals with strong aromatics and delicate tannins.
On this vineyard is planted our rare and sought after Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc varietals.
